What a fantastic experience. Great food and wine without the pretension of so many gourmet restaurants. It was a fun and casual experience, made even more so by the waiters cracking jokes and engaging with the diners. You should not read a review of the food before you go if you want to be surprised. Yes, it’s expensive for Austria, but the quality and service is very excellent. The lacation up to the hill beautiful decoration.
The rest of the meal unfolded over 2.5 hours. It was a delight to experience. I can’t describe it but let me put it this way – it’s not about eating – it’s about dining. I know that sounds cheesy but it’s true. There are courses you will love and there will be ones you dislike. I personally found that even if I disliked a certain course, I still respected the effort, technique and attempt to put those flavors together. It’s all subjective so you’ll find that you might like a course that your companion/s won’t. That’s part of it!
My recommendations for dining at Port 361:
– come with an open mind and prepare yourself for an interesting journey
– embrace the experience
– dine with someone you really really like and can spend 2.5hours with. preferably someone who also enjoys food. This doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be romantic, it could be your best friend, your mom or even by yourself. trust me on this.
– be nice to the waitstaff and talk to them – they’re really great resources on the food, Port 361, the experience. If you’re lucky and ask nicely they’ll take you on a tour of the kitchen and you MIGHT just meet the man himself.
